word on the street

We asked a few KC locals a slew of questions, including who they would like to see open the Sprint Center and where to find the best BBQ in town.

MARTI EIDSON, 22
“The place to be during summer is on the Plaza, watching the KC Explorers Tennis Team. I also like the arts festivals in Westport and the Kansas City Royals. The best BBQ is at Zarda’s, and I would love to see Kelly Clarkson play during the Sprint Center’s opening night.”
SHIFRA STEIN, 64
Shifra, from Wyandotte County, likes KC because of the small-town feel and ample wildlife. She prefers her backyard during summer and bird watching in any of KC’s many parks. Shifra thinks Rosedale’s is home to the best BBQ in town, and on Friday nights, she likes “to listen to good music in the Jazz District.”
TYLER SMITH AND MARYSA SOUSA, 14
These friends from Westwood like to hang out at Oceans of Fun’s water slides during the steamy KC summers and hit Oklahoma Joe’s for the best BBQ. If it’s hot out, they head to “any place that has an air conditioner.” They would love to see their favorite band, Nickelback, play at the Sprint Center on opening night.

KANSAS CITIANS SHOW THEIR LOVE!

“Kansas City has a small-town feeling in a big town. During summer, I love watching the outdoor Shakespeare Festival at Southmoreland Park with a couple of friends and a large can of bug spray.”
Erin Griggs, 34
“[I enjoy] the beautiful fountains everywhere. During summer, I hang out at the Country Club Plaza.” Ashley also likes walking in the parks and through the great neighborhoods, and going to the movies on Friday nights.
Ashley Smith, 22
Joe has lived in Kansas City for most of his life. “I like the local activities and limited traffic problems,” he says. During the summer, he goes to Worlds of Fun and the Starlight Theatre.
Joe Polita, 55
